READING WEEK 2023

Students of classes 1 to 8 participated in a week-long activity-based celebration of Reading Week from July 3rd to 8th. As announced by the CBSE, several innovative and interesting activities were planned for the students that inculcated the healthy habit of reading, which would improve their vocabulary as well as foster love for a language, among other things.

All the classes were first introduced to the world of books through a tour of the library. Every section of the library was briefly explained. The importance of systematic arrangement and classification of books was discussed in detail by the school librarian.

The tiny tots of classes 1 and 2 participated enthusiastically in ‘Know your Food’, where they got a list of food items eaten the previous day. The same was written on charts and colourful sheets of paper which were read out as sight words.

The older students of classes 3 to 5 enjoyed ‘Nani Dadi Ki Kahaniyaan’ by retelling favourite stories told by their grandparents. The students read out interesting stories using voice modulations and actions. A few sections of classes 4 and 5 also took a tour of the school observing and reading name plates, notice boards and house boards.

The higher grades of 6 and 8 had an enriching and fun session with their teacher called ‘Circle Time’. The teacher initiated the story by giving them the opening sentence and setting of the scene, and each student took the story further by adding a sentence and narrating a unique version of the story. The enthusiasm and fervour among the students could be witnessed in their active participation throughout the week of celebrations. They were able to learn the importance of reading and its application in daily life.
