On July 18, 2019, Amrita Vidyalayam organized an interaction for the 8th graders with Mr. Nicholas Nixon and Mr. Deepak, volunteers from “Freedom Faith”. Apart from acting as a destitute home, this centre at Badlapur also works as a de-addiction and rehabilitation centre for people recovering from any type of drug addiction and alcohol related issues.
Principal Brni. Rekha introduced the guests to the students. The interaction focused on real life experiences of the volunteers who had unfortunately succumbed to wrong habits in their early lives, and found it quite challenging to come back to a normal life. True love and concern, they said, can only be found in the hearts of parents, and it is the duty of each child to take every effort not to make them suffer due to the choices they make. As they could not complete their education due to the situation they got into, they advised the students that education should be their one and only priority at this stage of life. Thanking the Principal for inviting them and giving them the opportunity to share their experiences, they said that they felt very blessed to be at Amrita Vidyalayam and invited the students to visit their centre as well. The volunteers thanked the school for the generous donation of 50 kg of rice which was collected as part of the Sevamritam Project.
