Help at Hand for Children with Learning Difficulties

Principal Brni. Rekha in her continuous endeavour to provide equal opportunity of learning to all the students of the school, arranged for an informative and interactive session for parents on February 18, 2017 in the school auditorium. The session was conducted by Occupational Therapist Dr. Pankaj Popli, and Remedial Educators, Mrs. Chitra Sejwal and Mrs. Akshata Popli who are experts in the field of education and are working with children who have difficulty in learning. They were ably supported by our Counsellor, Mrs. Vrinda Nargundkar.

The session started with prayer, following which the guests were introduced by Brni. Rekha. Speaking in detail about Occupational Therapy, Dr. Pankaj Popli explained the signs that children with learning disabilities usually display which would give a hint to parents so that they can approach the school counsellor for remedial action at the right time. Hyperactivity, mild to severe behavioural problems, intellectual disability, distracted attention or lack of concentration, etc. are usually visible early signs that would help parents to identify a child with learning disability. Some other signs include difficulty in doing routine physical chores such as holding a tooth brush, spoon or pencil, getting dressed, buttoning a shirt, tying shoe laces, etc.

Mrs. Akshata Popli spoke about the importance of Remedial Education and when it is required. She explained the symptoms of learning difficulty such as difficulty with phonic sounds, blends, reading, writing, doing simple math calculation, etc. that would help parents to identify the problems the young children face, and address the issues in a timely manner to help their children overcome them.

Parents interacted very freely with the experts. We are thankful to our parents who came forward and shared their experiences. They found the remedial method implemented by the school very useful as they could see significant improvement in their children. Principal Brni. Rekha thanked the parents for their active participation and the experts for their valuable guidance. The session ended with Shanti Mantra.
