Students of Amrita Vidyalayam celebrated National Science Day to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by Indian Physicist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman on the February 28,1928.
The students presented a short speech on Sir C.V. Raman’s discovery. A skit on “Waste Management” brought into focus the need to learn how our past generations lived without the use of plastics, and how they preserved the wealth of nature by leading simple lifestyles. The skit brought out the importance of composting, using cloth bags instead of plastic bags, using glass bottles instead of plastic bottles, reducing waste and segregating dry and wet garbage. The three R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle – to save the environment was effectively conveyed through the skit.
In sync with the theme of the year, “Science and Technology for Specially Abled Persons”, students put up informative charts showcasing the innovations in the field of Science and Technology that have helped the specially abled in their day to day life. A model of a Braille Printer – one of the most valuable inventions for the blind – was also put on display.
Students of Amrita Vidyalayam have stitched cloth bags using old school uniforms and distributed them in the surrounding areas during the Amritam Project drive.
