The spirit of the Independence Movement was brought alive by the students of Amrita Vidyalayam, Juinagar when they took the stage dressed up as Shivaji Maharaj, Nehru, Rani Lakshmibai, Tilak, Modi and other great national leaders. The Chief Guest for the Flag Hoisting ceremony was Mr. Adhikrao Pol, Sr. Inspector of Police, Nerul. The flag hoisting was followed by the National Anthem and the Flag Song “Vijayi Vishwa Tiranga Pyaara” sung by the school choir. In his speech, Mr. Pol reminded the students that they were symbols of India’s future and should act responsibly towards themselves and society. He also told students to be constantly inspired by the sacrifices of our great leaders.
Through their speeches, students thanked the countless nameless figures who fought for India’s independence. They also paid homage to the countless jawans and National Security Guards who have laid down their lives while guarding our borders in extreme conditions so that we can enjoy the joys of “Free India”. Emphasis was also laid on the sensitive issue of “saving the girl child”.
A street play by Senior Secondary students on “Save the Environment” was performed in Gamdevi Chowk and Chincholi Talav, Juinagar. The message was in sync with the NMMC drive to “Recycle, Reuse and Reduce”. In our continuous endeavour towards promoting the “Joy of Giving” and inculcating the habit of sharing, the school distributed Dal Khichdi and sweets amongst 50 families in the Juinagar slum area.
