Experiential Learning – The Classroom Guide

A workshop on Experiential Learning based on hands on activities was conducted by Mr. Manmohan Kataria on August 4, 2016 at Hotel Yogi Executive, Vashi. Ms. Neha Narkhede, our Senior Secondary Science teacher attended the workshop on behalf of Amrita Vidyalayam, Juinagar.

The workshop was based on experiential learning which can help students to get real life experience, and also help with development of skill and concept clearing. It was a four step learning process. The first step was Act, where teachers were given a kit and asked to conduct an experiment for which clear directions were given. The next step was Role Play where teachers acted as students trying to learn the experiment. The third step was the discussion of the experiment through a questionnaire. The fourth and final step was to learn how to apply the concepts learnt through the experiment in their lives.

The workshop also dwelt on experiments that are impossible to be physically demonstrated. Such experiments were shown on a Smart Board with animated videos. A question and answer session helped the teachers to share their own experiences and methods with each other.

The workshop was very well designed and served as a refresher course for the teachers.
