INVESTITURE CEREMONY 2016-17

The Investiture Ceremony of Amrita Vidyalayam, Juinagar for the academic session 2016-17 was held in a special ceremony at the school Assembly Hall on June 17, 2016. Smt. Chandrakala Suresh Naidu, General Secretary, Maharashtra Congress Committee and Member of the Education Commission, NMMC, was the distinguished guest for the ceremony. This is the sixth consecutive Investiture Ceremony, and was held with a lot of enthusiasm and gusto.

The ceremony started with the lighting of the lamp and offering of prayers at the lotus feet of Mata Amritanandamayi Devi. The school believes in a child centric approach and the importance of social responsibility is instilled in the minds of every student through various events held throughout the academic year.  Students are continuously asked to dedicate his/her time and energy towards social responsibility in every possible manner.

The students were made aware of the unique selection process that determines the student leaders. Students are nominated on the basis of discipline, academics and behaviour so that they can be role models to their fellow schoolmates. It was indeed a proud moment for our Amrita Vidyalayam as the Student Council members for the academic year 2016-17 were officially assigned with powers and positions.

The names of the newly elected leaders were announced. The Head Boy for the academic year 2016-17 is Harish Puri Goswami and the Head Girl is Almas Bhavikatty. The Junior Head Boy is Manav Chavan and the Junior Head Girl is Hareesha Shivkumar. The Sports Head Boy is Suresh Singh and the Sports Head Girl is Purvi Shetty. The names of the School Captains and Vice Captains of the four houses were also announced during the ceremony.

Principal Brni. Rekha and Smt. Naiduji conferred the elected representatives with their respective titles. They were adorned with sashes and badges. The oath taking ceremony of the newly elected student council was led by the Principal. She invested them with their powers and responsibilities and made them aware that leadership is not an assertion of control over others but a sincere desire to serve. She also implored them to never steer from the traditional values and culture set by the institution, and asked them to continue to imbibe and inculcate discipline and devotion which are important qualities for a leader. House Mothers were also appointed, who would guide the students towards discharging their responsibilities diligently.

The students were encouraged by Smt. Naiduji’s motivational speech. She shared her experiences and commended the institution for providing a platform for students to nurture their leadership qualities. She also said that this is ideal in a democratic country like India where we can walk together without fearing prejudices.

The “Amritam Project”, a project initiated by Amrita Institutions to fulfil Amma’s vision of spreading universal happiness was also announced, and teacher and student coordinators were invested with the powers and responsibilities required to carry out the various activities planned throughout the year.

The Head boy and the Head girl shared their thoughts on taking on their responsibilities, and thanked the school for electing them and giving them the opportunity to fulfil their promises. They promised to work hard towards living up to the expectations of the Principal and their teachers, and to work in sync with the mission of the school. The enthusiastic House Mothers promised to support the School Captains in their endeavour and implored the Student Council to discharge their duties in a responsible manner. They said that the actions of the Student Council must inspire every student of Amrita Vidyalayam.

The colourful ceremony came to an end with the chanting of Shanti Mantra.
