Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at Amrita Vidyalayam

SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN is a mass movement that was launched by the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Sri Narendra Modi on August 15th, 2014 in order to realize Mahatma Gandhiji’s dream of a Clean India.

To emphasize this concept, Amrita Vidyalayam, Juinagar, Navi Mumbai had been taking many steps to encourage the students to promote a clean environment.  Various activities like poster making, short skits, drawing competition, poems, speeches, etc. are being conducted throughout the year, wherein students display their sense of responsibility towards maintaining cleanliness.

The week of January 27th – 31st, 2016 was observed as ‘Cleanliness Week’.  The campaign kick started with a pledge in Hindi as well as English taken by all the students of the school during the school assembly. The students pledged to dedicate 2 hours per week towards voluntary work for cleanliness, not only in their households but also in the school, their neighbourhoods and the city. This is the first step towards making the students aware of the dire need for civic sense and responsibility. Every class was assigned a cleanliness monitor who would ensure that the classrooms remained clean at all times. The students from Standard IV to XII were grouped and allotted 15-20 minutes per day to put their thoughts into action. They were escorted by teachers who patrolled the corridors, playground and toilets to ensure that they remained clean at all times. The junior section from Standard I to III followed them and made this mission a success. Short speeches and poems were presented by students highlighting the urgent need to practice this essential civic responsibility.

We truly appreciate this initiative undertaken by the CBSE which will help in instilling a sense of responsibility amongst the students and teachers.
