“If we can light the lamp of faith and love in our hearts and walk forward together, we can surely dispel the darkness around us and bring about a change in society.” – Amma.
On September 27, 2024, Amrita Vidyalayam joyfully celebrated Amma’s 71st birthday. Along with this auspicious occasion, Amrita Nursery students marked Pink Day and World Tourism Day, adding to the festive spirit. The young students looked angelic in their best pink outfits, symbolizing innocence and joy. Senior KG students took turns presenting and describing pink objects they had brought, reinforcing their understanding of the colour. Engaging activities were conducted, where students created flamingos, lotuses, and bougainvillaea flowers to decorate their class boards, immersing them in the beauty of the colour pink.
In honour of World Tourism Day, an informative video and a PowerPoint presentation were shown, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of India. Iconic landmarks like the Taj Mahal, Hawa Mahal, and Amma’s Amritapuri Ashram were featured, deepening the students’ appreciation for the country’s historical and spiritual treasures.
The celebration culminated with a beautiful Pookalam (floral rangoli) dedicated to Amma, where every colour held profound meaning. The vibrant arrangement symbolized the love and blessings Amma has showered upon her devotees. The Pookalam depicted Amma embracing the world, while her iconic hug symbolized the union of humanity with God. White flowers were used to represent peace through meditation, lamps symbolized the spreading of light across the world, and a heart motif embodied the spreading of love everywhere.
This celebration not only honoured Amma, but also served as a reminder of the values she embodies—love, unity, and peace.
