As part of Mata Amritanandamayi Devi’s 71st birthday celebrations, Amrita Vidyalayam organized a community outreach program on September 21, 2024. The school invited 30 visually impaired individuals from Mumbai for the event, creating a unique and enriching experience for the students. The responsibility of hosting the program was entrusted to students of classes 11 and 12, who carried it out with exemplary care and enthusiasm. It was heartwarming to witness the students’ genuine love and compassion, which flowed naturally throughout the day.
The event commenced with an introduction by Mr. Darshan Kamble, the representative and coordinator of the visually impaired team. As each member introduced themselves, the students were astonished and inspired by their educational achievements and professional accomplishments, which they managed despite their physical challenges. This was a powerful lesson for the students, reinforcing the importance of perseverance and determination.
A lively game of antakshari followed, where the students were amazed by the beautiful, rhythmic singing of the visually impaired team, who ultimately won the game with their outstanding performances. The guests also showcased their talents by playing the tabla, singing solo, and even singing in a female voice, much to the delight of everyone present.
The event included a Kartika Puja, led by Brni. Sharanyamrita Chaitanya, the administrator of Amrita Vidyalayam. All attendees participated in the Archana, Bhajans, and a guided meditation session, filling the atmosphere with positivity and love. In her satsang, Sharanyamritaji shared valuable insights from the life and teachings of Mahatmas, emphasizing the importance of resilience in the face of life’s challenges. She also drew lessons from the Mahabharata, reminding everyone that while life can be unfair, it is up to each person to rise above it.
After the puja, everyone received Prasad, and the students distributed kits they had personally prepared. These kits contained 5 kg of rice, toothpaste, toothbrushes, body scrubs, shaving kits, towels, T-shirts, bathing and washing soaps, coconut oil, and biscuits. The students also served food to the guests, helping them wash their hands, ensuring they were comfortable while eating, and collecting plates afterward with care and respect.
The event concluded with heartfelt gratitude from both the students and the guests. It was an emotional farewell, as the students helped their guests find their footwear and safely escorted them to their vehicle, holding their hands with kindness.
The day left a lasting impact on everyone, fostering a deep sense of empathy and reinforcing the spirit of selfless service.
