Putting into practice the motto ‘My school, My responsibility’, students of Amrita Vidyalayam, Juinagar engaged in activities under Swachhata Abhiyan to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The school won the 2nd place in the prestigious Swachhata Sarvekshan 2019 contest and students enjoy a clean and hygienic environment at school.
Principal Brni. Rekha had outlined cleanliness activities for each grade which was announced during the morning assembly. Students came forward for each activity and teachers guided them in the cleanliness drive. The 1st, 2nd and 8th graders were involved in classroom cleaning which included cleaning the cupboards and window panes. The 3rd graders took charge of the broom and mop to clean the corridors. The school ground was cleared of plastic and stones by our 4th, 5th and 7th graders. The 5th and 9th graders put on their gloves and cleared the debris in and around the school campus. The 10th graders took out a ‘Swachhata Abhiyan’ rally, and armed with placards and posters went around classes 6th to 8th spreading the word about Gandhiji’s dream of a clean India. Thanks to the dry and wet garbage bins placed by NMMC at various spots, teachers were able to give the students hands-on experience in segregating the garbage collected and putting it in the respective bins.
The cleanliness drive was indeed a wonderful way to inculcate a sense of responsibility, and to ensure that once we use a space, we leave it clean.
