Around 1300 students from Amrita Vidyalayam, Juinagar, Navi Mumbai participated in the International Day of Yoga celebrations on June 21st, 2019 at both the Ashram and the school premises. The programme began with the traditional lighting of the lamp by Principal Brni. Rekha and the guests, followed by a prayer and the beautifully composed “Yog Geet”. The school was privileged to have Shri Sahebdin Ramprasad Das, an experienced Yoga teacher from Yoga Vidya Niketan, Vashi, as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied on stage by Br. Avyayamrita Chaitanya and Ms. Suja, the school’s Yoga teacher. The guests were welcomed with flower saplings in consonance with today’s call for a green environment.
Swamiji addressed the students, dwelling upon the benefits of Yog Vidya for all in his profound speech.
Shri Sahebdin Ramprasad Das followed the IDY protocol and each class participated in a 25 minute yoga session. The joy on the faces of Amrita Nursery students was a treat to watch as they enjoyed peforming simple asanas. Teachers also actively participated in the yogasana demonstrations. Dasji was thankful to Amrita Vidyalayam for inviting him this year too and struck an instant connection with the students. He also made it a point to mention that the students’ enthusiasm motivates him very much.
The students were exposed to different yogasanas that would help them to develop focus and increase their energy levels. Yoga period is compulsory in Amrita Vidyalayam and is also offered as one of the co-curricular activities.
Student leaders and volunteers came forward enthusiastically to help with all the arrangements and ensure that the programme was conducted smoothly.
