“YOGAH KARMASU KAUSHALAM”

The misty quadrangle of Amrita Vidyalayam, Juinagar reverberated with energy on the morning of June 21st, when students gracefully performed yogasanas and participated in the 3rd International Day of Yoga.

The programme started with the lighting of the lamp by our esteemed guest for the morning, Shri Sahebdin Ramprasad Das and Br. Avyayamrita Chaitanya, Math in-charge, Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Nerul. Quoting anecdotes from Amma’s life, Swamiji addressed the students, speaking about Mahatmas who have attained mastery over the self.  Explaining the quote “yogah karmasu kaushalam”, Swamiji said “If we can align self-discipline and steady focus, it will surely pave the way to meaningful living”.

Shri Dasji in his speech told students to aim at controlling all sense organs including the mind and asked them to follow the examples set by great sages who lived in this great land. The sages were able to go beyond their capabilities through Tapa, Swadhyaya, and Iswar Pranidhana. Describing Yoga as “Yam-Niyam”, he said that irrespective of the path we follow such as Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, etc., yoga is for all.

It was a great moment to see around 1600 students from grades 1 to 12 participate with enthusiasm in the IDY session which had 25 minute yoga practice sessions instructed by Shri Das (YVN Yoga Trainer), Brni Rekha (Principal, Amrita Vidyalayam) and Ms. Vidya (Teacher, Amrita Vidyalayam).

The programme ended with the chanting of Shanti Mantra.
