The birth anniversary of eminent Marathi poet, playwright and novelist Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar, popularly known by his pen name Kusumagraj, is observed as Marathi Bhasha Gaurav Din. Amrita Vidyalayam students put up a splendid performance highlighting the beauty of Marathi which is ranked fourth among the most commonly spoken languages of India. There are about 9 crores Marathi speaking people around the world.
The programme started with a brief introduction on the significance of the day by Ms. Anagha Zarkar. A beautiful rendition of Ganesh Vandana by Ms. Aruna Hingorkar set the tempo for the programme. Students were dressed in the traditional “feta” and white kurta, and the cultural programmes were conducted in Marathi. An array of activities kept everyone enthralled. Stories extolling the pride of Maharashtra were narrated by the students. They paid tribute to the poet Kusumagraj through the rendition of the poem “Kana”. A brilliant performance of “Bharud” – a Marathi folk art by the youngsters emphasized the importance of education and urged their fellow students to avoid falling prey to the lures of social media.
Teachers contributed Marathi books to the library and urged all the students to take up the challenge of speaking only Marathi on the day. Essay writing and handwriting competitions were conducted for students from classes 5 to 8. The school notice boards were adorned with poetry, stories, quizzes, etc. in Marathi.
