Teachers of Amrita Vidyalayam, Juinagar attended a two-day workshop on Classroom Management conducted by CBSE on January 7th and 8th, 2017. Ms. Pooja Arora, Principal of City International School, Wanowrie, Pune and Ms. Poonam Keshwani, HOD English, Gopi Birla Memorial School were the resource persons who conducted the workshop.
The workshop revolved around active discussions between the teachers and the resource persons. Teachers were introduced to various innovative methods for managing classrooms. They were divided into 8 groups, and they actively participated in evaluating their own style of teaching through several self-evaluation surveys, helping them to understand whether their teaching styles fell in categories such as Authoritarian, Demonstrative, Facilitator, Detached, etc. Teachers also sportingly took part in group activities which involved case studies, role plays, presenting lesson plans, etc. With the help of PowerPoint presentations, various topics such as classroom rules, procedures, routines, unique teaching styles, etc. were shown to the teachers, which helped them to evaluate their own teaching methods, and to also implement changes in their method wherever necessary.
Teachers shared their personal experiences in classrooms which helped others to learn new ways of interacting with children. Handouts were also provided to them for future reference.
The role play was especially interesting, as each group was given a situation and they enacted the roles of students as well as teachers. They demonstrated how effectively they could handle a difficult situation. The experienced resource persons assessed the teachers and guided them by sharing their own personal experiences.
The two-day workshop refreshed the teachers, and they looked forward to going back to their classrooms with renewed energy.
