Teachers of Amrita Vidyalayam, Juinagar attended a workshop on Disability Awareness conducted by ‘etc’ Education, Training & Service Centre for PWDs, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. The workshop was conducted by Shweta Ugalmugale and Minal Kaskar who are special educators who provide education and therapeutic services, and manage various schemes and facilities for PWDs in the NMMC area through community based rehabilitation programmes. The Centre is a recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration and is situated in Vashi. It currently educates 2500 students.
The objective of the workshop was to sensitise teachers to the different problems faced by children who are slow learners. Teachers discussed the challenges they face with children who display attention deficit behaviour or are hyperactive, with the special educators. The workshop was highly informative for our teachers.
