In order to commemorate the birth anniversaries of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, and the second Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri, on Sunday, October 2 nd , students of Amrita Vidyalayam took to cleaning the classrooms, corridors and school grounds. On the second anniversary of the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan, this activity was undertaken by the school to reinforce the vision and show our support for this initiative started by the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi. The Swachch Amrita programme is an on-going process in the school and special marks are allotted to classes that keep their classrooms clean at all times. In fact, the school is a proud recipient of the National Sanitation Award for 2012. Principal Brni. Rekha who is a stickler for cleanliness, inspects every corner of the school to ensure that hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.
Gandhiji had said that unless people’s bellies are filled, there is no way that their minds can be filled. In order to fulfil his wish, teachers and students visited the families adopted under the school’s Sevamritam Project and donated rice, soya bean chunks, toys and clothes.
