Amrita Vidyalayam, Juinagar wore a festive look on August 24, 2016 in order to welcome “Bal Gopal”. Handis were hung at many places to mark the birth of Lord Krishna. Every class had creative drawings and decorations that depicted the childhood of Krishna and his divine form. A host of activities were planned for the students where the focus was on the life and teachings of Lord Krishna.
The celebrations started with the lighting of the lamp. The school choir soulfully rendered the bhajan “Krishna Govinda Gopala Raas Racho”, followed by a short speech on the spiritually inspiring life of Lord Krishna. Students of 3rd and 4th staged an interesting skit to depict the birth of Krishna and his playful days in Vrindavan. The engaging skit drove home the point that God will manifest in a human form to come to the rescue of mankind when deemed necessary. An energetic dance performance by students of V to VII depicted “Kalia Mardanam” – the triumph of good over evil. Though these stories have been read and heard many a times by the students, there is still the magic of a performance which makes the characters come to life.
It was a visual delight to see the pre-primary children dressed in vibrant costumes as “Radha-Krishna”. They had a small ‘dahi handi’ celebration also. Lord Krishna always evokes a sense of mischief and fun in our minds. Amritites expressed their playful energy by participating in a host of games such as “Bindi on Idol” and “Lemon and Spoon”.
The school encouraged the participation of girls also in the popular game “Matki Tod”. In fact, the girls and boys competed with each other sportingly. The much awaited “Dahi Handi” was carried out with great care to ensure the safety of the students. Students of Standards IX and X enthusiastically played the part of Govindas eager to steal the curd. The whole atmosphere brought cheer, and it was very refreshing for teachers as well as students as team spirit and fun was the focus.
Principal Brni Rekha distributed Prasad to everyone, and the programme ended with the chanting of “Lokaha Samastaha Sukhino Bhavantu”.
