AMRITA LEAP – CLASSES VIII TO X

Amrita Leap, themed as “Education for Life” which is a unique workshop on personality development was arranged for the students of classes 8 to 10 on 11th February 2023 at Amrita Vidyalayam. The main objective of the workshop was to teach the children to refine their personality.

The workshop commenced with the lighting of the lamp and prayer. Introduction of the resource team was done by Principal Ms Anupama Rao. Our Administrator, Brni Sharanyamrita Chaitanya, and primary Head Mistress Ms Monika Sularia extended a warm welcome to the team.

Brni Sharanyamrita Chaitanyaji briefed our students about the Amrita Leap program and guided them on the importance of getting an “Education for Life” along with “Education for Living”, and how it can be imbibed at school. She narrated an example from the life of Swami Vivekananda where he used his wisdom to face challenges with intelligence.

Ms. Anjali and Ms. Aishwarya, resource persons from Amrita Leap then took the workshop forward with a few icebreakers that helped students to understand team work, concentration, and holding their concentration. They were also taught that while working, the body and mind needs to be in co-ordination.

Resource person, Mr. Arjun Rajeev explained the two types of education, education for life and education for living. He said that acquiring education for life is as important as getting an education for one’s livelihood. He emphasized this point by showing a few videos depicting how modern gadgets are ruling and ruining our lives and minds. He explained the law of diminishing marginal utility, stating that it is the mind that one needs to work on, not possessing material things. He explained that the mind can be controlled through focus, memory, and habit. The students actively participated in the interactive session.

The next resource person, Mr. Vivek Vijayan, with the help of a presentation, explained how to make our mind calm, know that happiness lies within ourselves and not outside, and to appreciate others instead of being jealous. To memorize, we need to create mind maps or visualize to make learning easier and simpler. He said that in order to cultivate a habit, one should practice it for 21 days; practicing it for 90 days would change one’s lifestyle.

In the second half of the session, the students were divided into two groups, and games were conducted where they learnt leadership qualities, competitiveness, learning from our own failures, and seeing setbacks in life as life’s lessons and not stumbling blocks.

The Amrita LEAP programme helped children develop their personalities while also raising their spirits through fun activities. The students truly enjoyed the whole program planned by the facilitators.
