GURU PURNIMA 2022

Guru Purnima, otherwise called Vyasa Purnima, is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Veda Vyasa, the legendary author of the Mahabharata, as well as the Vedas and the Puranas.

Amma says, “The Guru will be with you to show you the path in any struggle and crisis. You should have faith, and surrender yourself to the Guru.”

Amrita Vidyalayam celebrated Guru Purnima on 9th July, 2022 to pay respect and gratitude to Sadguru Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, the embodiment of selfless love and compassion.

Students of Grades 8 and 9, teachers and PTA members of the school participated in this program led by Brni Sharanyamrita Chaitanya. To begin with, she explained the significance of Guru Purnima and how the Guru leads his disciples from darkness to light. AMMA is a self-realized soul. It’s not an easy task for the common man to reach the stage of self-realization. We need a Guru who is an epitome of Knowledge to guide us in the path of self-realization. One can attain self-realization by following the teachings of the Guru, and serving the Guru. She shared the story of Alexander the Great who is considered as the conqueror of the world. He chose his Guru over his father, as his father brought him to the world, but his Guru could take him to heaven.

She also threw light on the Mind, the creation of man. She said that Man is now the slave of his own mind which should be reversed, and that the mind should become the slave of Man. She narrated an anecdote to explain this. Through a Guru-Shisya story, she explained that only the Guru can guide and help us to purify the mind to make ourselves perfect instruments to receive knowledge.

Mantras are the purest form of universal vibration or Shakti. It helps to focus and attain perfect purity of thoughts. The program continued with chanting of Guru Stotram followed by Guru Paduka Stotram, during which Guru Paduka Puja was performed by Brni Sharanyamrita Chaitanya and the Vice-principal of the school with the chanting of Amma’s Ashtotharam.

Bhajans are a way of conveying love to the divine. It treads the path towards becoming one with the divine. Bhajans were sung by teachers and students led by Brni Sharanyamrita Chaitanya. Students participated in the bhajan session with enthusiasm.

The Guru Purnima celebration culminated in Aarti to show steady and profound love to Amma. All the students offered flowers at Amma’s feet and received prasad after the puja.
