An assemblage of physical activities was presented by the students of Amrita Vidyalayam to mark the Republic Day celebrations this year. The distinguished guest for the morning was Lt. Commander Avinash Chandra who has served in the Armed Forces for 30 years.
The celebrations started with prayer. The tricolor was unfurled by the Lt. Commander. This was followed by the National Anthem after which he received the salute from the NCC cadets. “If you want to bring change, work towards acquiring education, as knowledge is the only powerful tool with which you can build a distinct nation”. These words spoken by the veteran commander carried a powerful message to the students who were encouraged to consider joining the prestigious Armed Forces as a serious career option besides pursuing the regular undergraduate courses. Br. Avyayamrita Chaitanyaji, in-charge of Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Nerul, captured the attention of the students with real life anecdotes about the power of one’s faith which is essential in attaining success. The speeches had a clear message – the way forward is always to empower students by transforming them into a focussed, capable, skilled and inspired population.
Students presented a variety of physical acts one after the other starting with mass PT, Zumba, hula hoop and athletics followed by a patriotic dance and ending with a pyramid formation by both girls and boys.
The programme was well appreciated by the guest. The celebrations ended with the chanting of Vande Mataram and Shanti Mantra.
