Teachers of Amrita Vidyalayam attended a one-day CBSE Capacity Building Training programme on “Structure of Remodelled Assessment” on September 29, 2018 in the school auditorium. The training program was conducted by accomplished experts Mrs. Kavita Singh, Principal of Ram Ratna Vidya Mandir and Dr. Shitala Prabhu, an educationist with over 20 years of experience. The workshop started with a prayer. The resource persons also played a short prayer, ”Sabka Mangal”, following which they immediately asked teachers to stretch for a warm up song. This energized the teachers for the day long workshop.
The workshop was held to present the new evaluation methods (80:20) to the teachers. Teachers were divided into groups based on the subjects they teach. Teachers understood the evaluation pattern for 20 marks, comprising of Subject Enrichment Activity (5marks), Notebook Correction (5marks) and Periodic Tests (10marks). The assessment pattern for the 80 marks was discussed in detail where the structure for assessment for 6th to 8th graders are different from 9th to 10th. The trainers were able to transform the workshop into a highly interactive session where many doubts were cleared by the experts.
The resource persons also stressed that no child should be labelled a weak student. To drive home this sensitive issue, a short video on “Work in Groups” was shown, and group/individual activities were conducted. Teachers engaged in active discussion with the resource persons and shared their experiences. Discussions on how teachers could implement new methods of teaching to enhance the academic growth of students were also held.
Teachers enjoyed the workshop as the various activities and the lively manner in which the workshop was conducted energized them. The training programme ended with vote of thanks and chanting of the Shanti Mantra.
