Teachers of Amrita Vidyalayam were in for a surprise when they were asked to assemble in the auditorium. The 9th and 10th grade students took over their classes, leaving the teachers to enjoy a Teachers’ Day Special, specially put together by the cultural committee under the guidance of Brni. Rekha. Earlier in the morning, teachers were presented with roses and chocolates by their students.
The celebrations started with a prayer. The cultural committee welcomed Principal Brni. Rekha with a bouquet and asked her to speak a few words. The Principal addressed the teachers quoting Dr. S. Radhakrishnan’s famous words, “Teachers should have beautiful minds”. Her speech was very engaging as it contained thought provoking stories which addressed the mind-set of the current generation. The essence of the speech was the impact of education in recent times; learning used to be for life, but now it is only to make a living. As ready access to knowledge through online resources has undoubtedly redefined the role of a teacher, she urged teachers to go beyond just fulfilling their roles by being an inspiration to their students. After the speech, Amma’s blessings in the form of a beautiful sari was gifted to each teacher.
“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. This adage is true not only for children, but for everyone. In order to give teachers a break from their daily routine, a one-hour programme of games was organized by teachers Asawari and Priyanka. All the teachers were divided according to their Houses, and the auditorium echoed with squeals of laughter as they participated joyfully and tried to vie with each other playfully. The fun filled celebrations culminated with Shanti Mantra and a group photo session. The teachers were seen leaving the auditorium with wide smiles and brimming with energy.
