WORKSHOP ON CAREER GUIDANCE

“The connect between parents and students plays a vital role in understanding the areas of interest of their children, and can go a long way towards helping to shape their career”, said Mr. Faizan Bakshi, Product Head of Extramarks, in a workshop on ‘Career Guidance’ conducted on August 18, 2018 in the school auditorium. In this evolving market, students are exposed to a multitude of opportunities. The advantages are plenty, but so is the confusion. The Management of Amrita Vidyalayam understands these concerns very well, and organized the workshop for parents and students from 9th to 12th grades.

Mr. Bakshi stressed three main areas to focus on while choosing a career – Aptitude, Personality and Interest. It is also  of  utmost  importance to think of the scope of a particular field ahead of time. He also introduced emerging opportunities in the fields of Data Science and Automotive Engineering, which have greater scope in terms of career opportunities.

He answered several questions from parents who were keen to know about fields that are seldom thought of as a career path such as entrepreneurship, wildlife photography, astrology, sound engineering, etc. Mr. Bakshi guided the parents towards the Career Assessment Program (CAP) conducted by Extramarks. CAP is a scientific tool developed by expert psychologists and approved by the National Psychological Corporation. It helps students to identify the right stream, course and career in accordance with their personality and abilities. Thereafter, experienced counselors would guide the students  based on their report card and help them to chart a career path.

The session was very informative for both parents as well as students, and they had plenty of questions which were answered patiently.
