Capacity Building Programme on Gender Sensitivity in Schools

Teachers of Amrita Vidyalayam attended a one-day CBSE Capacity Building Training programme on Gender Sensitivity on October 28, 2017 at the school auditorium.

The training program was conducted by Mrs. Ranjana Jangra, Principal, Birla School, Kalyan and Mr. Rajeev Garg, Principal, Datta Meghe World Academy, Airoli. Teachers participated in various individual as well as group activities that focussed on breaking gender barriers. The focus of the workshop was on removing discrimination among girls and boys right from a young age itself.

The resource persons used the daily interactions of teachers with children to demonstrate how gender bias is established unknowingly through written or spoken language. Teachers were asked to avoid using gender discriminatory words while writing diary notes, and to make sports activities open to both girls as well as boys in order to foster gender neutrality.

Videos and group/individual activities were used to drive home this sensitive issue. Teachers engaged in active discussion with the resource persons and shared their experiences.

The training programme ended with vote of thanks and chanting of the Shanti Mantra.
