Amrita Vidyalayam students usher in “New India” by pledging selflessness

The twin celebrations of the 71st Independence Day of India and Janmashtami were observed by Amrita Vidyalayam students by taking the “New India” pledge which was led by Principal Brni. Rekha. Padmashree Dr. S.P. Kale, Department Head and Professor at Symbiosis International University, Pune was the Chief Guest for the occasion. After the flag hoisting, Dr. Kale in his crisp speech stressed the importance of protecting the environment, saying that if we waste food and other resources, the time will not be far when we have to buy oxygen for our daily lives. Our Principal stressed the importance of developing a selfless attitude and living our lives for the benefit of others.

Along with the entire staff and students of Amrita Vidyalayam, our Principal pledged to save the rivers of India in support of the nation-wide campaign “Rally for Rivers” initiated by the Isha Foundation. An array of cultural activities including patriotic song and a speech to pay homage to our freedom fighters and armed forces were the highlight of the day.

The school also celebrated Janmashtami immediately after the Independence Day celebrations. The programme ended with the rendition of Vande Mataram and chanting of Shanti Mantra.
