Club Activities – June – July 2016

Science Club

The Science Club was a hub of activities where children of different grades learnt different scientific theories by personally experimenting with them.

The 3rd and 4th graders learnt about Fossil Fuels. Using wheat dough, colours, plates and objects, fossilized impressions of objects such as leaves and toys which they had brought from their homes were prepared. They then coloured the fossilized impressions.

The 5th and 6th graders learnt to make handmade paper using old newspapers, tissues, acrylic colours, strainer, large dry sponge, rolling pin and butter paper.  The look and feel of the paper they made gave the students ideas about how to use them decoratively on the school notice boards and in greeting cards. Thus waste paper was converted into useful colourful sheets.

The 7th and 8th graders were seen acting like sailors with the periscopes they had built. They were very enthusiastic about building a periscope using simple materials like 2 cartons and 2 rectangular hand mirrors. They learnt to measure, cut, tape and install the mirrors at the proper angle for the proper functioning of the periscope

Integrity Club

Students from 3rd grade to 8th grade were introduced to the vision and mission of the club, and the values that the club stands for such as Patriotism, Tolerance, Secularism, Compassion, Simplicity, Honesty, Love and Unity.  They also learnt the Integrity Club Pledge. An important lesson on how to become champions of ethics by developing their ethical muscles through regular practice in real life was explained to them. Patriotic songs were sung by students to develop a sense of nationalism. Posters on National Unity were made by students from 6th to 8th grades. Students actively contributed by bringing pictures, making captions and decorating the posters which highlighted Indian culture and heritage and unity in diversity.

Literary Club

The focus of this club is to build effective communication skills in the students. The Literary Club aims to develop the analytical and creative thinking skills of students. The club also wants to develop their interest in literature, and work towards improving their writing and spoken language skills. Classes 3 and 4 were involved in chart making activity on Nature, and the students artistically decorated their charts with various pictures. Using coloured A4 sheets, students of 5th and 6th grades made brilliant depictions and catchy slogans to drive home the message of saving water. Students of 7th and 8th grades explained the benefits and functions of Rainwater Harvesting. They also made charts on how they could conserve water in their housing societies. The school has installed a Rainwater Harvesting system in our campus.

Arts Club

Finger paper puppets adorned the tiny fingers of 3rd and 4th graders. The students enjoyed making these puppets out of chart paper. They drew figures of their choice and their imagination was on display on their fingers. The 5th and 6th graders learnt the art of making collage out of newspaper and magazine cut-outs. Students also used art paper which looked very vibrant when cut into small pieces to make images like flower vases, flowers, etc. All the students in 7th and 8th grades had smiles on their faces as they held the roses made by them using Duplex paper. They understood how these simple techniques can be utilized to make thoughtful gifts instead of spending money to buy gifts.

Health and Wellness Club

Monsoons are a boon as well as a curse as cases of illnesses increase due to the change in weather and improper hygiene. Students of 3rd and 4th grades were informed about the precautions that they should take during this season, including safeguarding against leptopsoriasis which is commonly caused by splashing in puddles. They were also given information about the need to include proteins in their diet, and about sources of proteins like pulses, eggs, leafy vegetables, etc. which should be a part of their regular diet. Students of 5th and 6th grades were asked to be conscious about eating home cooked meals, and were advised about unhygienic cooking practices that may lead to diseases such as jaundice and typhoid. Students also learnt about the importance of eating fruits, salads, etc., and they performed a skit on the benefits of eating raw vegetables and fruits. Stress was laid on health, wellness and happiness for the 7th and 8th graders. They were told that the best way to keep themselves healthy is to eat well, sleep well and exercise more, instead of spending precious time watching TV and playing video games. They were also encouraged to eat dry fruits, sprouts, etc. to increase the red blood cells in their bodies. Students made charts from all the information they received and explained the benefits of “eating right”.
