‘Whatever we do with awareness becomes Yoga. The mental attitude is important’ -Amma
Around 1500 children from Amrita Vidyalayam, Juinagar, Navi Mumbai participated in the Amrita Yoga Programme organized by Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Nerul (W), Navi Mumbai on June 21, 2016 at both the ashram and the school premises. The annual Amrita Yoga Shibir was conducted on the school premises from June 20th to 24th for teachers as well as students. Amrita Yoga offers a holistic approach to yogasana practice, uniquely imbued with awareness and devotion. It teaches the art of tuning in to one’s own true being and connecting to one’s own essence. Brahmacharini Shobhana, Director of Amrita Yoga Programme, Amrita Yoga Department, Ms. Mitra and Ms. Sahana, residents of Mata Amritanandamayi Math conducted the programme, impressing the significance of Amma’s message on the young minds. Through a combination of yogasanas, story-telling, movement and dance, students learnt simple techniques of relaxation and meditation. The students were also exposed to simple yogasanas which would help them to improve their focus and increase their energy levels. Teachers found the shibir very helpful as they learnt how to unwind and relieve stress through meditation, and they were advised to devote some time daily towards their inner well-being.
Throughout the programme, students were urged to think beyond the basic purpose of their lives and focus on higher ideals such as the importance of being unique, finding the path that would create inner well-being and striving for the betterment of society. Students were encouraged to respect and acknowledge their feelings and stay inspired by continuously focusing on their strengths, and to deal with their emotions instead of getting ‘engaged’ in them. They were asked not to get disheartened by small hurdles that would come in their way while trying to achieve their goals. They were also advised that a contemplative, reflective and mature life would empower them with the wisdom to tackle the challenges that they may face in the future.,/p>
The benefits of yoga as being the best technique with the potential to revive every bone, muscle, joint and tissue in the body and bring tranquillity was stressed upon. Students were made conscious of the real strength and energy within them.
