1200 children from Amrita Vidyalayam, Juinagar, participated in the Amrita Yoga programme organized by Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Nerul (W), Navi Mumbai on June 21, 2016 at both the ashram and the school. Leading the way was Principal Brni. Rekha, who practised the yogasanas along with the teachers and students.
Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfilment, harmony between man and nature, and a holistic approach to health and wellbeing.
The Amrita Yoga session began at the ashram and on the school premises under the guidance of Brni. Shobhana, Director of the Amrita Yoga Programme, Amrita Yoga Department, and Ms. Mitra and Ms. Sahana. Students were motivated to think beyond the basic purpose of their lives and focus on achieving higher goals, the importance of being unique, to find the path that would bring inner joy and to strive for the betterment of society. Students were encouraged to respect and acknowledge their feelings and to stay inspired by continuously focusing on their strengths and to manage their emotions. They were asked not to be disheartened by small hurdles that would come their way while trying to achieve their goals.
The benefits of yogasanas as the best technique with potential to revive every muscle, joint and tissue of the body was emphasized. Students were made conscious of the real peace, strength and energy within. They were exposed to various yogasanas which would help them to develop their concentration and increase energy levels.
International Yoga Day for pre-primary students was observed on Monday, June 20, wherein around 350 children participated. The tiny tots were introduced to yogasanas through simple postures of animals and birds which made it interesting for them. The children participated very enthusiastically in the programme. Regular yoga classes are a part of the school curriculum.
