Marathi Bhasha Diwas

The school quadrangle of our Amrita Vidyalayam resonated with the glory of the Marathi language on February 29, 2016. A host of activities such as recitation, singing, and speeches highlighted the beauty and charm of the language. The purpose of the celebration was to honour the work of Sri V.V. Shirwadkar, the literary giant whose birth anniversary is celebrated every year as Marathi Bhasha Diwas.

Teachers recited the “Pasayadan” of Sant Dnyaneshwar which set the tempo for the programme. Students extolled the glory of Maharashtrians whose immense contributions in the fields of literature, arts, sports, and politics are a source of inspiration to people from all walks of life. With his chaste pronunciation and command over the Marathi language, Amay Desai of Standard II stunned the audience with a presentation of “Natakacha Pravesh”. It was a delight to hear Mangesh Padgaonkar’s poem “Kase Jagayacha”. The speeches in Marathi highlighted the spirit of the people of Maharashtra, and brought glory to the language which is one of the oldest among all modern languages.
