CHILDLINE India Foundation conducted a workshop for students of classes III and IV on October 29, 2015. This organization is the mother NGO for the CHILDLINE 1098 service. The aim of this organization is to reach out to all children in need of care and protection, and to make them aware of and have access to services that are child friendly and available when they want it, and encourage them to participate in decisions that affect them.
A volunteer from CHILDLINE taught the children about Safe Touch, Unsafe Touch and Personal Safety Rules through a storytelling exercise. The children learnt about situations that can arise in the safe confines of their homes, neighbourhood houses, schools, playgrounds, etc. They were also taught to be bold and say a firm ‘NO’ when they encounter an Unsafe Touch and confide in their parents or teachers. The children were given a sheet of labels to act as a reminder about the safety knowledge and the 1098 helpline. Parents were also provided a sealed envelope with information about the issue of “Child Sexual Abuse” and guidelines on how to handle an emergency situation.
