Workshop on Personality Development

The educational environment is not confined only to the classroom. It extends to our home, our community and around the world. Similarly, information is not bound primarily in books; it is available everywhere in bits and bytes. On September 29th, teachers of Amrita Vidyalayam attended a one day workshop on Personality Development conducted by Mr. Gautam S.T. from Friction Innovative Education LLP. The main aim of this workshop was to identify the challenges of teaching in opportunistic settings, and to explore strategies to increase teacher effectiveness.

The teachers actively participated in the interesting discussion which focused on the important role of a teacher. Parents give us life, love and help in going in the right direction. It is the teacher who shows the path to make students self dependant so that they may choose the right path. Teachers were encouraged to share their teaching experiences and the unique ways in which they engage students. Mr. Gautam asked the teachers to get to know each student as an individual in order to comprehend his or her unique needs, learning style, social and cultural background, interests and abilities.

The workshop helped the teachers to self-evaluate their own abilities. The day-to day job of a teacher is to guide students through engaging learning opportunities. As an educator, the most important responsibility is to search out and construct meaningful educational experiences that allow students to solve real-world problems and show that they have learned the big ideas, powerful skills, and habits of mind and heart that meet agreed-on educational standards.

The workshop was very refreshing for the teachers and the discussions and self-evaluation helped to rejuvenate their minds.
