Students of Class V and VI drew historical monuments, and students of Class VII and VIII took an active interest in clay moulding, and artistically created Ganesha idols, Shiv Ling, Fruit Basket etc. This also led them to think along the lines of making eco-friendly Ganapathis for the upcoming festival.
Science Club
Students of Classes III and IV learnt about the properties of magnets using metal scale, spoon, plastic scale, board, pins, scissors, coins, etc. They also learnt to classify each material into magnetic or non-magnetic material. Students of Classes V and VI learnt to make Electromagnets using insulated wire, nail, 9 volt battery and paper clips. Detailed instructions were given by the teachers, and students made their personal electromagnets and learnt its use in day to day life, like electric fan, electric door bell, computer hard disks, memory storage devices, etc. Students of Classes VII and VIII learnt about vegetative propagation where only one plant is involved, and the offspring is the product of only one parent. Students followed the detailed instructions given by the teachers and potted vegetative parts of plants such as potato bud, hibiscus plant branch, branch of rose plant, leaf of Brahmakamal, Aloe Vera, etc. Students will observe the growth of these plants, and will be able to get first-hand experience of this type of reproduction where new plants grow from parts of a single plant, and how they are genetically identical to the parent plant.
Nature and Eco Club
Students of Classes III and IV visited the school grounds which is host to different types of plants and understood their different parts and functions. It was easy for the students to relate to them as they are studying their functions as a part of their syllabus. Appreciating the importance of maintaining a kitchen garden, the enthusiastic students of Classes V to VIII sowed common seeds such as coriander, mustard, tomato etc. Chart making and group discussions created awareness on sorting dry/wet garbage, and the process of composting by which the green waste (leaves, food waste) can be converted into humus that can provide nutrients for plants and increase the ability of the soil to retain water.
Integrity Club
The Integrity Club’s focus was on ‘Cleanliness Drive’ and inculcating the importance of reading newspapers to stay abreast with current happenings in India and around the world. A quiz competition was organized for students of classes VII and VIII on “Women Empowerment’ which saw active participation by the young children.
Health and Wellness Club
This month’s activities for the Health and Wellness Club included gathering data of the height and weight of students. These were then put together in tabular form (tally mark and frequency). Bar diagrams were made using the prepared table by the 5th and 6th graders. The 7th and 8th graders made picture charts and were asked to draw conclusions about the right height and weight. The objective of this activity was to understand the applications of statistical concepts, and what the average height and weight of an individual should be according to their age.
Literary Club
August is the month of India’s independence and the students were involved in activities related to patriotism. As August is also the month which heralds the beginning of many festivals, students were asked to learn about each festival and share their experiences and ideas on celebrating them.
Students from grades 3 to 8 made beautiful posters exhibiting their creative talents. Both, patriotism and festivals were displayed very artistically by the students. The objective of this activity was to enhance the knowledge of students about festivals and encourage them to be expressive about their thoughts.
