AMRITA YOGA CAMP

Amrita Vidyalayam conducted its annual Amrita Yoga programme on the school premises on June 11th and 12th for grades 5th to 12th. Brahmacharini Shobhana and Brahmacharini Sunanda, inmates of Mata Amritanandamayi Math, conducted the programme.

The emphasis of the programme was to instil Amma’s message – ‘Education for life and education for living’, in the minds of young children. The importance of Yoga has been felt even more after the UN declared June 21 as International Yoga Day. </p.

The benefits of yoga as being the best technique which will revive every bone, muscle, joint and tissue of the body was stressed upon. Students from classes VIII to XII were taught the ‘Surya Namaskar’ which infuses the body with energy and the mind with calmness. The students were also taught to deal with the various emotions characteristic of their age and work towards bringing harmony in their lives by discussing their worries with parents, teachers and peers.

Students from classes V to VII were exposed to different yoga asanas which would help to increase their awareness and energy level. The abundant energy that these young children have was utilized fully by the brahmacharinis practicing different forms of yoga in a playful manner. The room was filled with the cheers and applause of the young ones who would not tire and wanted even more exercise. The students attended the session in batches and were able to partake of the bliss of yoga.
